Meet Matt and IES El Pinar

Matthew Abrams

Hi my name is Matt Abrams and I'm a 25 year old originally from San Diego, California. In 2015, I graduated honors Cum Laude from Harvard University majoring in Clinical Psychology and minoring in Global Health and Spanish.

I’ve been living in Madrid for the past two years, and I also studied abroad in Madrid in the Summer of 2014. I work as an auxiliar in the Comunidad de Madrid and also volunteer at a Clinical Psychology lab at the Universidad de Madrid.

In my free time, you will find me studying Spanish, spending time with friends, learning how to cook a new recipe, playing tennis, reading in Retiro, or traveling within Spain

The past two years I have had the pleasure of working at IES El Pinar de Alcorcón, located at Parque Ferial, s/n, Alcorcón 28923 (Madrid).

Assigned Grades that I teach: 1st, 3rd, and 4th years

Subjects I help teach: English, Biology, Debate, Global Classrooms, Social Studies.

The school is filled with hardworking teachers that have come to become some of my closest mentors. As a second year auxiliar, I really felt like one of the team and well-respected by all my colleagues. I noticed that second year the students really see you as just another teacher and it's nice walking down the halls and seeing all my students from last year (and the few classes I teach with 4th years have been especially great since I have been able to develop many close relationships with the students I taught last year.

El Pinar has been supportive of my growth as a professional and given me opportunities to play a leading role in the classrooms, especially in terms of preparations for Debate and Global Classrooms Conferences.
