What is the purpose of the Position Paper?

The purpose of the Position Paper is to express your country's point of view on an important topic. This yearÅ› topic can be found on the Country and Topic Section of this website. 

 

In this paper,

You will write to: the UN

You will write as: The delegates of your country

You will write about: The issue (How the HRC should combat violence against women and how your country thinks it should be fixed.

 

Is there a specific structure for the Position Paper?

Yes. The Position Paper must be one page in length, single-spaced. It must have five paragraphs, and each paragraph must answer the questions found on the website. 

 

Do I need my own paper, or do my partner and I submit one paper between the two of us?

You and your partner will only submit one paper between the two of you. This is why teamwork and collaboration are very important skills for this project.

Must I meet with my partner outside of school to complete the Position Paper?

While it is not always necessary, it is highly recommended that you and your partner meet outside of school to work on researching and writing your Position Paper.  If this is not possible, you must communicate with your partner through email, phone, or another means of communication in order to plan and complete the Position Paper as a team.

 

Will I get a grade for the Position Paper?

Yes. The Position Paper will be graded on a scale of 0-10 and will make up __% of your final English grade, with other Global Classrooms work making up another__% of your final English grade. For example, the opening speech is also worth __% of your grade. (Ask your English teacher for the exact percentages) 

 

If I am confused about something relating to Global Classrooms or the Position Paper, who can I ask?

Will this paper determine if I am chosen for the Global Classrooms conferences in Madrid and New York?

Yes. The amount of work and the quality of work that you do for your Position Paper will help us and the Global Classrooms organization decide the students who are chosen for the conferences.

 

What happens if my Position Paper is not written in my own words?

If your Position Paper is not written in your own words, it will be considered plagiarism and you will receive a 0 for the paper. This includes using direct wording of articles, webpages, or having another person write the paper for you.
